The Truth - Part I

My old friend, Indy, had a fun TPA yesterday.

"One of my statements about myself is a blatant lie. The TPA: Figure out which statement is the falsehood, and then post five statements of your own, with one being the hidden lie..."

I decided to reveal the my lie in a series of posts. Starting with the first of my five answers, which can be found in his comments, I will tell my story.

1. I've been a trashman.

True. I started working when I was 13 after my father pulled some strings and found a job for me on the William Jewell College Physical Plant Staff. The PPS handled all of the grounds maintenance, odd jobs, mail runs and… trash duty. On Monday and Friday mornings, the crew would drive around in the old blue 150 and gather the trash from the dormitories and campus buildings. We’d haul the trash to the compactor located behind the Mabee Center.

As a young lad, my disappointing assignment turned to excitement when I learned I would be entering girls’ dormitories. I would surely run into female students running around in their underwear, having pillow fights and trying to seduce me. My dreams turned sour when I learned students do not live on campus during the summer. Instead, I spent six summers slinging heavy bags into the compactor while my seniors stood by operating the compactor. If I was lucky, the occasional bag would split open in the air, showering my coworkers in soda, sticky wrappers or female sanitation products.

“Wait, tampons? But I thought you said the college students were gone for the summer?”

Yes, I quickly learned the college hosted a plethora of cheerleading camps during the summer. They didn’t find the garbage man very sexy.
